Episode 56 - Whatareya Doing NYE?

Happy whatever!

I recorded the host spots on my phone while transporting my cats halfway across the country for a probably misguided move. I finished editing it just now, the day before I do the drive again and while I should probably be finishing pack.

Features info on Phineas Narco's marathon New Years Eve special of his National Cynical Network program. More info on that at his website or at the radio station's website, kfjc.org

The music playing around Phineas Narco is from his Beatles Hell appearance on Don Joyce's Over The Edge radio program.

It also features a track off Arvo Zylo's latest album, Upheaval, and a track from Brandon Dumais's weird little Christmas album, Subpoenas for Santa.

And then there's a weird little thing based on my Christmas dinner this year.

And then that's it. Bye.

We also premier some new Christmas songs from past and future guests including Motherwhore, Laura Squirrel, Amishrobots, Sara Century*, and Brandon Dumais!**

Episode 53 - Laura Squirrel's Night at the 5th Pt. 2

She also promotes the upcoming Kitmas Fest in Cincinnati, OH, at the Rake's End on Saturday 12/12/15. Check out "Kitmas, Vol 2", buy a copy and support a worthy cause. If you don't, Kathy Cat will kick your ass for being a selfish bitch.

Episode 49 - Bryan Lewis Saunders

Today on the show is performance artist, stand up tragedy performer, poet, painter, and… There isn’t really a word for a lot of what Bryan Lewis Saunders does.

You may have heard of Bryan Lewis Saunders a few years back when the internet suddenly became aware of his mission to create at least one self portrait a day for the rest of his life. Or, more specifically, a strange overblown period in which he created 50-60 self-portraits under the influence of different drugs (for context, he clams to have completed over 10,000 portraits now).

We talk more about his collaborations with noise musicians, his sleep speak recordings, his work performing psychological tests on himself, and his recent exhibits in which he was tortured on stage. In fact, I don’t speak a whole lot at all–I mostly ask a question and then just laugh for 10 minutes as he goes off on intensely surreal tangents.

And finally, I need to thank and acknowledge the contributions of frequent guest, Arvo Zylo. At the end of his interview he had offered to send me a list of other guest suggestions, the first of which ended up being Bryan Lewis Saunders.

Because of Saunders’s frequent collaborations with noise musicians, often recording a spoken word piece and then sending it to musician to do what they will with, and because I’ve been listening to a lot of Over The Edge and experimental Australian radio, I decided to take another stab at soundtracking and doing small edits to the interview.

The majority of the music is from a previously unused three hour piece of Arvo’s titled, BLOODBATH. Arvo had originally been commissioned to compose it for a gallery, but the gallery went bust before opening and the track was doomed to an obscured spot on little seen archive.org playlist alongside 3-10 minute long pieces.

The other piece is an excerpt from the Pleasure Tunnel collaboration between Arvo and Bryan. You can hear more about that in the bonus episode we posted yesterday. You can also find where to buy one of the few remaining cassette copies here.

All that said, if you have a few bucks to spare, consider contributing to friend of the show Sara Century's kickstarter for her queer Western, the Dream of a Glass Desert. Most films about lesbians are shitty or actually about straight people and she promises that this will be neither. So, take a minute to go support some truly independent, truly LGBT cinema.

Episode 48 - Gawker Commenter Roundtable #2 Gramercy Police and Arctic16

It's our biannual Gawker shit-storm!

When it comes to GM drama, who better to discuss than with Gawker Commenters? For this 2nd roundtable, Gramercy Police, Arctic16 and I briefly talk about Gawker's restructuring as a political website and its potential effects on our beloved comment section.

Pssttt. Check out Rob's last interview with Saoirse Heart on YouTube too. The artist has created an elaborate and intricate world for herself in Second Life. Weird and fascinating stuff.

Episode 47 - Saoirse Heart

In today’s episode we learn about Second Life! I get a tour of various artsy things in Second Life from SL resident and Windlight writer/podcaster, Saoirse Heart!

This is a scene I’m fascinated by, mostly because I thought Second Life had been dead for at least 5 years.

But it’s not! Not only that, but Second Life artists are still getting grants and people are still paying for the work they produce inside the game (sorry, I’m going to keep calling it a game).

You have two options for consuming today’s episode:

Option one is you can download the audio only podcast, which you obviously already have. However, if you do stick with this option then you’ll also get to hear the weird voicemail that was left for us last week.

Option 2 is that you can watch the entire tour in the YouTube video embedded on the website. Or by clicking here.

Episode 45 - travis

Arvo’s back again! This time to talk to travis of Ono!

Actually, this is a fairly old interview from Arvo’s now defunct radio program, the Delirious Insomniac Radio Show on WLUW. We had talked a few times about me “rebroadcasting” one of his interviews and ultimately settled on this one, mostly because it’s fucking amazing.

First off, Ono is an incredible band. If you like the track featured in the podcast, go buy their latest album Spooks NOW! It’s only $8 for the digital or double cassette version and $20 for the double LP. And it features Obnox, Hilal Omar Al Jamal, and, as I mention in the show, Al Jourgensen of Ministry.

Second, travis is an incredible artist.

Third, travis has lived an amazingly interesting life. He’s modest about it, but each turn in this interview is more fantastic than the last. This guy has lived a life worth telling, which is a lucky coincidence since he's a gifted artist that needs to be telling stories.

Anyway, come back on Friday to hear KittensAndUnicorn's chat with Blerg! (He's the guy that runs our twitter... and talked to me about Hemlock Grove last week)

KittensAndUnicorns was busy again this week, so I called Blerg on Skype and we watched the Season 3 premier of Hemlock Grove together. There’s not a lot else to say.

Episode 43 - Arvo Zylo

Arvo Zylo's back again! Yay!

We talk noise, experimental music (ie, noise), and a little about film and stuff (visual noise). Arvo talks about how he got into experimental music (noise), how he finds different obscure (noise) musicians, and what appeals to him about being experimental (noisy).

Arvo will also be next week to present an interview he did on Delirious Insomniac (his old radio show in Chicago) with travis (sic, full name) of Ono. You seriously need to come back for that one. That guy has lived a fucking life and a half. I feel privileged to give it a third life (it was also printed in a magazine).

Also on the show is a brief talk with Laura of Ghosts of Dead Tables about her upcoming Seismic Slaughter show in Indy! Go see it! Brutal metal and grind noise! November 14!

And on Friday Kittens should be back to talk with dothedew.

Oh, and go back and check out the Edgar Allen Poecast why dontcha?

Kittens is at jury duty for whatever ungodly reason, so I called my friend and didn't tell him I was recording him in order to fill the gap. He's got a book he's publishing on Kindle and a series of machinima grammar videos he's putting on YouTube.

Episode 41 - Edgar Allen Poecast

It's here! The Edgar Allen Poecast! What is there even to say other than, holy shit, we have talented fucking friends.

I won't even bother saying anymore. What more could I tell you? Just that this episode features Sara Century, T. Volpone with Blood Loaf, The Smudge, Jennifer C Martin and Daniel Martin, Arvo Zylo, Brandon Dumais, Motherwhore, and a little music cue by Kathy's Special Brownies.

And everyone (except the last one) are doing their interpretations of the work of Edgar Allen Poe.

Fuck yes.

This week's guest is a Jezebel commenter AND a poster at The Salad Bowl! Please welcome The Gaysian, who if you couldn't tell by his Kinja name, is gay but also half Asian and half Latino.

He shares with us his experiences being both gay and of mixed race. How does this play out with his relationships with other men and people? How much does and would religion affect his relationship choices? Get down with some intersectionality in this call!

Episode 39 - Sara Century

Holy shit it's underground queer multimedia superstar Sara Century! A woman with many a prefixes. So many that I won't bother listing them here. Just check out her (newly revamped) website.

Or listen to this interview! The sound gets more consistent after the first 5 minutes or so.

Or the prelude episode we put up on YouTube. Long story. Not really, but I don't feel like telling it again... if I ever even did.

My laugh annoys me. Even though I'm pretty sure I stole it from someone. I've never had an original laugh.

Episode 37 - Zac & Me

Simulcast! Buzzwords! This isn't the YouTube show!

Today on the podcast is the other podcast, Zac & Me, where this is, too. Yup.

Here's the review I left them on iTunes:
"These two have an interesting format going. The mix of chatter and improvised acoustic guitar work is reminiscent of hanging out on a beach around a fire. I usually set my phone on fire while listening to get the full effect. It seems like a better use of my money. They're good, but they're not, like, $400 an episode good. Sorry guys."

Also, my allergies were really bad while we were doing this.

Episode 36 - Arctic16

This is your classic Gawker commenter. Snarky, political, and empathetic. (Ok ok ok, maybe empathy isn't the most apparent or widespread Gawker commenter quality but it does exist)

We did this call on Arctic16's cellphone so the sound quality is weird sometimes. Please bear with me because there is some good stuff in this call.

Episode 35 - Brad Smith

Today on the show is video gamer programer and chiptune wizard, Brad Smith! Apparently his chiptune adaptation of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon was kind of a big deal like, 4 years ago. I was too busy watching years old British comedies and walking aimlessly around Philadelphia in the middle of the night to notice, I guess.

Anyway, we talk chiptunes, programming, video game programming, nostalgia, music theory, and other stuff I don't understand.

Also, does my voice sound more nasally today? I think it sounds more nasally.

A number of his chiptune adaptations and compositions are featured in today's episode, but you can find those and more on his website as linked to on our website.

Holy shit! Today is packed solid with greatness. First is some music and conversation with psychedelic funk insanity maker, SassyBlack! We talk Star Trek, being rude to aliens, and what exactly goes into her sound.

Then Ms. DangerTits helps me out by reading a random poem from the Craigslist Missed Connections and my emails with the person that wrote it.

And then I talk to Arvo Zylo. Ok, so, we talk about the Tonetta situation some. But, more importantly he pushes his new original cassette coming out and gives an update on his upcoming El Train performance in Chicago in November.

Episode 31 - Lisasaur

Today on the show is (misguided) scallop hater and classical musician, Lisasaur! She didn’t tell me her real name, so, we’re going to have to call her Lisasaur! I called her Lisasaurus on the podcast, but what’s done is done. It’s in the past. Let’s move on.

Lisa has played cello in numerous community orchestras but has never felt compelled to go pro. So, I accidentally belittle her for that and then accidentally belittle her further by asking why she only plays dead people’s music and doesn’t do her own.

After that we have a new installment of T. Time in which T better articulates the questions I had and then answers them! Plus, blues music! Yay!

And then a lovely David Hameron joke by Jill Hackney!

Then come back on Friday for KittensAndUnicorn’s interview with Yoga_Nerd! For real this time! I think!

Today on the show is marketing whiz and comic book artist David Pemberton! We talk about how he got into marketing, why he’s devoted himself to evil, and then a bunch of stuff about comics and diversity in comics.

If you’ve listened to the first few minutes already, you know my head’s all messed up. But it’s a good talk. He’s one of those super normal weirdos.

But he's also known (and sometimes hated) in Star Wars circles for his fan preservation project, Star Wars Legacy. Verta's put a lot of hours and money into this project, but he never plans to personally release it (thus the hate). Find out why and whatever else we talk about in the episode! How would I describe Nefertitties, one of the funniest commenters on Gawker, in 3 words? Cheeky, whimsical, cutting. (That was hard!) Please excuse the weird sound in the beginning--it sounds like she is in a far away galaxy, but like most some things, it gets better.

We talk about the Disco Biscuits, following bands on tour, people we've known that have died, and racism. It's a really uplifting conversation.

Episode 21 - Osa Atoe

Today on the show is Osa Atoe, the brilliant mind behind Shotgun Seamstress! This was a pretty big interview for me and I was really excited to have her on, so of course I fucked it up. She did great though, and I hopefully did ok. It's fine, don't worry.

We talk about her zines, the fascinating people she discusses and talks to in said zines, her music, and we both sort of try to define what 'punk' is and whether it can exist in an academic setting.

Episode 19 - Jennifer C. Martin... again

Today on the show it's my turn to talk to Jennifer C. Martin! Ostensibly we were to talk about her experience with mommy boards but then the conversation turned back to her religion and writing. We also touched on the Twitter controversy (of four people) from last week's episode. Also, the minor familial controversy. Is it weird that I'm mentioning that? Cause that happened. I think it's more weird that anyone listens to this.

Episode 17 - Harmy

On today’s episode I have the man, the myth, the Czech, Harmy! If you’re not familiar with Harmy, you should be, because he’s the only reason you’ll EVER* be able to see the original Star Wars films in HD and on Blu Ray.

That’s right, we’ve got the Harmy responsible for the Star Wars Despecialized Editions. I probably shouldn’t link to them, but if you look up “despecialized” on The Pirate Bay you’ll probably find them.

Check out the blog for my talk last week with Star Wars Fan Editors TVs Frink and Q2. While you're there, check out my conversations with a webcam dominatrix, conspiracy theorists, and other assorted weirdos. You can also send in your guest suggestions (including yourself) and short stories and poems there or to rob@undressingunderground.com or kandu@undressingunderground.com or leave us a voicemail at 260-PUNK-POD. And don't forget to subscribe!

"I got to interview the former editor in chief of Gawker and Deadspin, A.J. Daulerio in a no holds barred conversation about the current Gawker controversy (Jordan’s article), Nick Denton, and some yummy insider-y stuff you might enjoy (I certainly did!). Thanks again to A.J. for giving such a honest in-depth interview." - Kittens & Unicorns

Check out the blog for more talks with Gawker commenters, a webcam dominatrix, conspiracy theorists, fan editors, and other assorted weirdos. Episode 15 - TV's Frink and Q2

On today's episode we have fancy Star Wars fan editors TV's Frink and Q2! They discuss why they edit, how they edit, the unwritten (and written) rules of fan editing, types of fan editing, and whatever else could possibly be said about fan editing. They also talk a little about their home bases, fanedit.org and originaltrilogy.com

Stick around to the end for a new conversation with the person behind a short story (or whatever) on Craigslist's Missed Connections forum.

Later this week we have a SURPRISE SPECIAL GUEST for the Gawker episode. That'll probably be up... Thursday?

And then next week there's more Star Wars talk, this time with Harmy of the kinda famous Star Wars Unspecialized Editions. Also, f you or someone you know is doing fan film preservation (35mm, etc), reach out to me and I'll tack our talk onto the end of Harmy's.

Don't forget to subscribe, leave reviews, comment, etc.

Episode 13 - Rev. Gary

First up, sorry about my voice and any other shoddy work this week! I’ve been sick and my vocal chords. My chat with Rev. Gary sounds fine, though.
That said, today on the show is Rev. Gary! Right now he’s basically the spokesperson of the church, so... we talk about that. We learn about his background, how he got into Dudeism, and whether or not the Big Lebowski is one of his favorite movies(???).
Also! Stick around until the end for a new installment of T. Time! We talk for 20 minutes about... something... I mean, I’m sure we talk about SOMETHING
PS - Don’t forget to subscribe! We’ve got a special Gawker themed bonus episode coming up later this week!

Episode 12 - Moe Bedard

It's time to get weird, naked mole people! Today on the show is the Gnostic Warrior himself, Moe Bedard! He talks about his podcast, his website, the Freemasons, Alex Jones, ancient Egypt, shadow governments, and the sacred blood lines that tie all these things together.

I seriously love this guy's podcast and had a blast talking to him.

Stick around to the end for a new spoken word piece by Tom Baker and a brand new segment that you'll understand once it happens to you.

Also, leave us a review on iTunes or donate some money and get a special thing! Maybe! And don't forget to subscribe¡¡¡¡!

Episode 11 - Kevin Kelly

Today on the show is the Philly punk rock puppet master, Kevin Kelly! He talks Welcome to Anhedonia, Stormy & Baker, and other things you probably should have watched already. He also reveals a super special guest voice this season! I can't say who. Or, ok, it's a puppeteer from a beloved, cult TV show in the 90s. Listen to find out who! Then tell us how to say his name!

Also, because Kevin and I talked way, way too long, I threw in a few samples of his brother's band's songs to break things up where editing was impossible for my feeble brain. They're called Snoozer.

Stick around to the end to find out how to submit your guest suggestions, interviews, short stories, songs, poems, etc!

Also, leave us a review on iTunes or donate some money and get a special thing! Maybe! Please?

Episode 10 - Jeanette Lynne

This week on the podcast I yell too much in my intros and blow out the microphone, so I'm really quiet. Not that I matter when we have JEANETTE LYNNE talking to me, her brother, and then performing a couple songs! You may know Jeanette Lynne from... open mics and shows around Philadelphia if you're from there... or other places. We talk about her music, Hanson, hot janitors, and then she talks about David Bowie, pregnancy, and international conflict with her brother.

Donate money if you wanna or leave a review on iTunes and I'll send you something if you ask me. Don't forget to subscribe!

Episode 5 - Milton Berle's Biracial Son/Fresh Beets/T. Time

This week we talk to two more anonymous Gawker commenters, Milton Berle's Biracial Son and 3/5 Compromise, aka Fresh Beets. We learn whether they consider themselves trolls, what they consider trolling, why they do what they do, and what they think of others' perception of them. Also, stick around to the end for our new segment, T. Time.

Episode 4 - Milton Berle's Cock and Cheerfulexgirlfriend

Today's episode is possibly our largest, because we talk to Gawker commenters Milton Berle's Cock and cheerfulexgirlfriend. We reach for the sky here at Undressing Underground. Both conversations touch on the craft of internet commenting, why they do it, what they get out of it, and what kinda sucks about it. Stick around to the end for a new segment featuring Oedipus P. Q. Videoboi and don't forget to subscribe on iTunes or whatever thing you use to download this.

Episode 3 - Jon Seidman

This week I had to quickly throw together an interview with alleged author, poet, photographer, filmmaker, actor, sorta musician, and forever BMFI theater employee, Jon Seidman. I spend 50 minutes shaming him for being a failure even though he totally saved my ass by talking to me on Monday at 5pm on Facetime after I failed to secure any other guests. Check out his links and movies (one of which I'm in) on the blog, http://undressingunderground.tumblr.com

Episode 2 - Jufu Haopimjai

This week I talk to neurotic lesbian fantasy writer, Jufu Haopimjai (don't try and say it). We cover her weird food anxieties, her stories, acting, and then I make her feel uncomfortable about her writing. Please excuse the sound issues this week--I was really drunk, my cat kept messing with the table, and we were outside for some reason. Check out a short film we made at the blog, http://undressingunderground.tumblr.com
